WWE Look Back 16/03/13

Well well well.  After a week of the flu, a birthday and starting a new position at work, I'm back!  (Did a Slim Shady song pop in your head too?)  I would like to note one thing, before we get started.  With my new schedule it will be difficult for me to post on here too often, so instead of a twice weekly blog, I've had to scale back to once a week.  Don't worry, I'll still give you my thoughts on Raw and Smackdown and I'll even throw in any Pro Wrestling titbits that I can offer...so...on...with...the...shoe...

Note: I'm going to be messing with the format this time...you've been warned.

Raw

First off, Rest in Peace, Paul Bearer.  One of the greats passed away.  The WWE did a great job of paying their respects with some very neat video packs on Monday Night.  For me personally, Paul Bearer was a staple of my childhood, when was managing the Undertaker.  Creepy as all Hell (in the best way possible), but an awesome manager and all round Wrestling Guy.  An actual mortician and one of the most familiar faces in Pro Wrestling history.  He will be missed.  Though, maybe not by my sister, who at almost 27 is still creeped the hell out by him.

C.M. Punk vs the Undertaker.  What started a little lackluster has already turned into something meaningful, and its all thanks you Mr. Bearer.  Taker comes out to honour his old friend/mentor and you just knew that Mr. Punk wouldn't let the show go on too long without his presence.  When Punk told Taker that he wanted to pay his respects for the Deadman's loss...at Wrestlemania, I nearly lost it.  Punk is just so damned good at being hated!  The whole story with those two, mixing in Kane, and then Punk stealing the Urn was fantastic!   I'm hoping that this will lead to their match at Wrestlmania being a classic Taker match.  Casket or Buried Alive.  If the latter, then I will actually put money on Punk winning.  Not a lot.  Five bucks?  I'm just saying that it would be appropriate for Taker's Streak to be ended with a Buried Alive Match.  Fitting.

Fandango.  I may be the only one (save my wife) who likes this guy.  Okay, so he hasn't actually wrestled yet, but I don't know, something about this guy's shtick set's me a giggle.  But for the record, Sweet T's pronunciation of his name is my favourite.

The Shield and Big Show.  What I like about this is that with the Shield attacking the Giant is that it complicates things and blurs that line between Face and Heel.  In this situation the crowd doesn't have to like Big Show, they just have to hate the Shield more.  Keep in mind that Big Show is a Veteran of the WWE, so even if he is the biggest Douche, the crowd will still respect what he's done, and to hell with these young upstarts.

Oh, You Were Not Aware?  Ok, Lesner interrupted the Rhodes Scholars vs the New Age Outlaws, but shit, it is great to see these guys back in action, even if it is short lived.  Let me say this.  Back in the day (a Wednesday) I was never a fan of DX.  Maybe it was because I was huge Hart Foundation fan, but I thought back then that their promos and nonsense were all a big waste of time.  However, The Road Dogg and the Bad Ass were one of my favourite tag teams.  Easily my favourite part of DX.  More of them!

The Highlight Reel.  Ok, this wasn't the best segment, not by a long shot.  But, I wasn't hating it so much until Cole and Jerry started chiming in on how bad it was.  I hear, through the grapevine (http://www.wewantinsanity.com/am2/publish/Dawgs/T_G_I_F_with_Matt_Dawgs_031513.shtml) that it was all planned that way.  No idea why...

Smackdown

The Celtic Vipers.  What a terrible name.  When we heard it, and I voiced my opinion, my wife came up with a much better name.  The Apex Warriors.  Shit, I mean, that makes them sound like they'll conquer the Seven Kingdoms from Game of Thrones.  Celtic Warriors...only one of them is Celtic and only one is a "Viper".  Sheesh.  But, them with (probably Big Show) vs. the Shield at Mania should make for an awesome undercard match, so I'll do my best to let it go.  Celtic Warriors, anyone else imagining plaid coloured snakes river-dancing?

Brad Maddox on Commentary.  More Brad.  That is all.

Del Rio/Swagger Ricardo/Coulter parody.  I was wondering when this "immigrant issue" would turn to Canada, and our evil maple syrup.  I'm liking this feud, and while I'm not to keen on Del Rio cracking wise, I do enjoy it when Ricardo is left to lead the jokes.  He is funny, and Del Rio's Swagger impression is definitely chuckle worthy!

Swagger vs. Jericho.  Great match that gave Swagger a needed win against a big name.  What I find interesting about Jericho these days is this;  According to his first book, A Lion's Tale, Jericho turned down the chance to become an "Enhancement Talent" with the WWF, back in the 90's.  Eventually making his debut later as a Main Eventer.  Now, when he comes back, his focus seems to be on putting over the newer guys, essentially acting as "Enhancement Talent" for them.  With both the Rock and Brock coming back to be dominant  its great to see that Jericho is able to come back and work towards the future of the company.  Some folk out there, on the Internets, are griping that he is losing so much.  Not this guy.  Jericho is a class act that way.

Other Notes

As I mentioned, I had a birthday last week.  Actually, a week ago today I turned 30.  yay.  Anyway, yesterday, just in time for Smackdown, my present from my Wife came in the mail.  That wonderful woman got my the Daniel Bryan Fan Package, which included his "No, No, No" shirt (which I am wearing as i write this), a foam finger, wristbands, a goat-mask AND a Signed Picture!  Best gift ever!

Go to this site, but be prepared for hours of hilariousness!!!!  http://botchamania.com/

That's all for this week.  Enjoy your weekend!
