Raw Look-Back 25/02/13

Welcome! once again to the Smarx Brothers' Raw Look-Back!  Too many !!! already?  Two bad!  If you're not down with that, then I got two words for you; Shut It!  Oh, close enough.  On with the shoe.

Note: For this article, and any other I choose in the future, I am forgoing the Good/Bad/F*#%! scale.  Monday's Raw feature a match that, if Dave Metzler doesn't give it Five Stars, then I sure as hell will.  Because, you know, I'm some guy on the internet?  Whatever, I hope you enjoy!

Raw

C.M. Punk vs John Cena.  I think that if these two men had a purpose behind this match, other then simply tearing down the house (mission accomplished!), then it must ave been to prove that this match should have been the Main Even at Wrestlemania this year.  I mean, Holy S**t!  First off, these two combatants were given close to 30 minutes to tell a great story in the ring.  This is always important, when you want to have a truly memorable match.  I get squash matches.  I get only giving most Television Main Events 10-15 minutes. And I am fine with that.  But, to truly make something awesome, you need that time.

Mr. Punk and the Cenation Leader put on a great back and forth match that, for this mark, left neither man looking weak.  Now, a lot of us out there figured that Cena would get the win.  The Powers that Be (Read: McMahon and co.) want Cena vs. the Rock WM29.  We knew that.  I was on the side that believed that Taker, having been spotted at a House Show, would be popping up to cost Punk the win.  Instead, the two most important members of the locker-room showed the WWE Universe why they hold the spots that they do as #1 and #2. (yes, I giggled when I wrote that too.)

Say what you will about Cena, but the man knows how to work a match.  I've always believed that Cena's only drawback was that he couldn't get a good match out of everybody.  Punk can.  However, Punk and Cena together put on Pure Classics.  Money in the Bank 2011.  Night of Champions 2012.  Some others that I'm forgetting and am too lazy to research.  But come on.  Is the Rock going to top that?  Well, I have no doubt that he'll do his damnedest, but I can't see how he'd be able to keep up a pace like we saw in this match.

In the end it took 2 AA's from Cena to down Punk.  Of course, after the Rumble, I was worried that Punk might lose to the Five-Knuckle-Shuffle.

That, ladies and gentlemen, was the match that I wanted to see Main Event Wrestlemania.  Just imagine, if that was the match where Punk lost the Title.  I know that I wouldn't have felt so disappointed.

Overall...

I genuinely thought that this was one of the Best Monday Night Raws that I've seen in a long time.  The matches were good to great and given the proper time.  And yes, I include the blessed quickness of the Mark Henry/Great Kahli match.  Mercifully quick!  The Shield sounded good on the mic.  Orton/Cesaro was great.  Zeb and Swagger/Del Rio and R.R on Miz T.V. was awesome (Both Zeb and Del Rio were so impassioned that they had me eating out of their hands!)  And how about that HHH/Lesner encounter?  My God the Blood!  Great Raw, overall.

Have a great night/morning/whatever time it is that you're reading this!

Marsh.
