The Raw Look-Back - 19/02/13

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to this, the first Raw Look-Back of our glorious new blog!  For those of you familiar with the Monday Night Wrestling Wave - 6:30 pm, every Monday Night before Raw - you'll know me as the "Marshall", because, you know, my name is Marshall.  Hey, we can't hit everyone out of the park!  For those who don't know us - and stumbled upon this blog while googling just who the hell Groucho Marx was, than get listening and read up!  Okay, read up, than get listening.  6:30 pm, every Monday Night.  Have I said that before?

Warning - This will not be a match by match by match/segment by segment breakdown.  If you like those, than go to www.wewantinsanity.com, and checkout either Corey Leston's Raw Real Time Report, or Aaron Wood's Smackdown Report.  This will simply be my own musings and observations of the Raw (and PPV) just past.  There.  On with the shoe.  Err.  Show.

Commence!

Elimination Chamber

The Good...

The Shield's victory over Team Cena.  Since these guys hit the scene, WWE Television has been especially good.  Just the anticipation, wondering when Ambrose and Co. will show up, has had me enjoying Raw and Smackdown more than ever!  Okay, well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but the Shield has certainly made things interesting as of late.  Some folk were worried that facing John Cena, Sheamus and Big Hungry, would result in the beginning of the end of these crusaders. The Shield gave us all a good slap across the chest (Whoo!) and won in excellent fashion.  Kudos to those fine young gentlemen.

The Bad...

U.S. Title Match Finish.  This one was inspired by my partner in crime on the Wave, Doug.  So, Da'Miz slips and falls on Cesaro's twig and berries and the ref doesn't see it.  But all Cesaro has to do is point to his groin and politely explain that he was low-blowed?  Oh, he hit you there?  Why didn't you say so?  Ding, ding, ding.  Jeez!

The F*#%!

Rock vs. Punk II.  This match was one of those good/bad scenarios.  On one hand, and note here that I am speaking as a fan of C.M. Punk's and not an "Armchair-Booker", it just plain sucks to see Mr. Punk go down two straight to the Great One.  Nothing eloquent, it just sucks.  On the other hand, I will say this:  the WWE booked both of those matches in a way that kept Punk looking strong.  After all, on Sunday, he did have the Rock down for a bloody 20 count.  So, there's that.

Overall...

I was mostly happy with the Elimination Chamber PPV, even if my broadcast partner wasn't too thrilled.  Loved that Swagger got the win in the Chamber itself and thought that the Divas Match, with Kaitlyn defending against Tamina was well done.  (Of course, I'm happy any time that a Divas match isn't a train-wreck )

Raw

The Good...

The Shield's Follow Up.  The inaugural Raw Look-Back and I'm already going to sound like a fanboy for these lads.  What can I say, I believe in the Shield.  The best part of this match was that while they repeated the spot with Ryback getting speared just as he was about to Shell Shock Rollins, the match was fairly different from the one we saw the night before.  These three upstarts all look like they'll have bright futures in the WWE.  Especially Ambrose, but especially Rollins.  Hell, Reigns, who I was coolest about, looks just awesome in the ring.

The Bad...

WWE Power Slammers.  First off, I know that these are toys meant for children and no, I don't normally rant or rave about toys, but holy shite, they are really pushing these things.  Worst part, for me, was watching Michael Cole and Jerry the King trying to play with them.  Egad!

The F*#%!

Our New U.S. Champion.  When I started watching wrestling again, way back in 2010, I was able to dig the Miz.  He was obnoxious and arrogant and just a Grade A Douche.  He made the fan in me hate him, and Smark in me love him.  Now that he is a face (and trust me when I say that I ain't the only one to say this), he is obnoxious and arrogant and just a Grade A Douche.  As Heel, you better believe it worked for me.  As a face...well...maybe I just don't get it.  I can't stand him.  Antonio Cesaro, on the flip side, has been nothing but a treat to watch.  His U.S. Title riegn was one of those things that just made the WWE and the United States of America all that much better.  And then...And then...And then he taps out to Miz's Figure Four, because, I don't know, God Hates Me?  I just hope that this is all so Cesaro can win it back at Wrestlemania 29.  Cause if not, well, then I'll write a scathing article on this blog and BOTH of you will taste my displeasure!

Overall...

I  enjoyed Raw about as much as I usually do.  Other then Shield match and the unveiling of the new Title, I'd say my favourite part was the Punk-Cena confrontation.  Something about these two guys, their rivalry, their positions at the opposite ends of more than one spectrum (Face/Heel, Company-man/Renegade) just gets me excited about the WWE product.  To paraphrase Kevin Steen (ROH Champion), These two are destined to do this again and again.  And I for one welcome it.  And on that note, I will leave it at this:  If there truly was a just and kind God, than Punk would be defending his Title reign at Wrestlemania against Cena, because J.C. is the most logical man to have ended it.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to tune into the show...you know the time.

Don't Ya Dare Miss It!
